कुतो युद्ध जातु नरो5वगच्छेत्‌ को देवशप्तो हि वृणीत युद्धम्‌ । सुखैषिण: कर्म कुर्वन्ति पार्था धर्मादहीनं यच्च लोकस्य पथ्यम्‌,मनुष्य कभी भी किसलिये युद्धका विचार करेगा? किसे देवताओंने शाप दे रखा है, जो जान-बूझकर युद्धका वरण करेगा? कुन्तीके पुत्र सुखकी इच्छा रखकर वही कर्म करते हैं, जो धर्मके विपरीत न हो तथा जिससे सब लोगोंका भला होता हो

kuto yuddhaṃ jātu naro ’vagacchet ko devaśapto hi vṛṇīta yuddham | sukhaiṣiṇaḥ karma kurvanti pārthā dharmād ahīnaṃ yac ca lokasya pathyam ||

Sinabi ni Sañjaya: “Bakit pa iisipin ng sinumang tao ang digmaan? Sino, na wari’y isinumpa ng mga diyos, ang sadyang pipili ng labanan? Ang mga anak ni Kuntī, na naghahangad ng kagalingan, ay gumagawa lamang ng mga gawaing hindi salungat sa dharma at kapaki-pakinabang at nararapat para sa bayan.”
