Ambā’s Vow of Tapas after Paraśurāma’s Assessment (अम्बाया तपोव्रतनिश्चयः)
एतस्मिन्नेव काले तु द्रुपदो वै महीपति: । अपत्यार्थे महाराज तोषयामास शड्करम्,महाराज! इसी समय भूपाल द्रुपदने संतानकी प्राप्तिके लिये भगवान् शंकरको संतुष्ट किया
etasminneva kāle tu drupado vai mahīpatiḥ | apatyārthe mahārāja toṣayāmāsa śaṅkaram ||
Wika ni Bhishma: “Sa mismong panahong iyon, O dakilang hari, si Drupada—panginoon ng lupain—na naghahangad ng supling ay naghandog at nagpasiyam upang palugdan si Śaṅkara (Śiva).”
भीष्म उवाच
The verse underscores that even powerful rulers pursue rightful goals—such as progeny and dynastic continuity—through reverent discipline and propitiation of the divine, suggesting that authority is ideally exercised in alignment with dharma and humility before higher order.
Bhīṣma narrates that, during the relevant period, King Drupada performed acts of worship/austerity to please Śiva, motivated by the desire to obtain offspring—setting up the background for later events connected with Drupada’s lineage.
