Bhishma and Rama: Restraint and Withdrawal in the Engagement
The verse highlights that authentic tapas (austerity) and devotion are acknowledged by the highest divine authority: Śiva himself grants direct darśana. Ethically, it affirms that sincere spiritual effort is protected and validated, encouraging steadfastness in dharma even amid uncertainty.
Bhīṣma narrates that Śiva—called Śūlapāṇi and Umāpati—manifests in his own true form in the presence of assembled great sages and grants a vision to a female ascetic, marking divine intervention and approval within the episode.
