हयाश्व मे संगृहीतास्तयासन् महानद्या संयति कौरवेन्द्र । पादौ जनन्या: प्रतिगृहा चाहं तथा पितृणां रथमभ्यरोहम्
hayāśva me saṅgṛhītās tayāsan mahānadyā saṃyati kauravendra | pādau jananyāḥ pratigṛhya cāhaṃ tathā pitṝṇāṃ ratham abhyaroham, kauravarāja ||
Wika ni Bhīṣma: O panginoon ng mga Kuru, sa digmaang iyon ang dakilang ilog—ang aking ina, si Gaṅgā—ang humawak sa renda ng aking mga kabayo. Una kong hinipo ang mga paa ng aking ina bilang paggalang, at yumuko rin ako bilang handog sa mga Pitṛ—mga ninuno—at saka ako sumakay sa karwahe.
