Kuntī–Karṇa Saṃvāda: Lineage Disclosure and Appeal to Fraternal Dharma
आत्मजस्य ततस्तस्य घृणिन: सत्यसड्डिन: । गड़ातीरे पृथाओ्रषीद् वेदाध्ययननि:स्वनम्,वहाँ गंगाके किनारे पहुँचकर कुन्तीने अपने दयालु और सत्यपरायण पुत्र कर्णके मुखसे वेदपाठकी गम्भीर ध्वनि सुनी
ātmajasya tatas tasya ghṛṇinaḥ satyasaḍḍinaḥ | gaṅgātīre pṛthā śrauṣīd vedādhyayana-niḥsvanam ||
Pagkaraan, si Pṛthā (Kuntī), pagdating sa pampang ng Gaṅgā, ay narinig ang malalim at umaalingawngaw na tinig ng pagbigkas ng Veda mula sa bibig ng sarili niyang anak na si Karṇa—na inilalarawan bilang mahabagin at matatag sa katotohanan.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights ethical character through two virtues—compassion (ghṛṇā) and truthfulness (satya)—and links them with disciplined Vedic study. Even amid impending war, inner restraint and fidelity to truth are presented as marks of nobility.
Kuntī reaches the Gaṅgā’s bank and hears the solemn sound of Vedic recitation from her son Karṇa. The moment sets a reflective tone before their consequential encounter, emphasizing Karṇa’s cultivated, dharmic disposition.
