Udyoga Parva 142: Vidura’s warning to Kuntī and Kuntī’s resolve to meet Karṇa
Gaṅgātīra encounter begins
The verse underscores the moral gravity and human cost of war: even when conflict becomes inevitable, it is recognized as ghora—terrible—because it leads to widespread suffering and bloodshed, pressing the listener to reflect on dharma and responsibility.
Sañjaya reports to Kṛṣṇa that the great war between the Pāṇḍavas and the Kurus has become imminent and unavoidable, describing it vividly as a blood-mire, foreshadowing the catastrophic violence to come.
