Udyoga Parva, Adhyāya 13: Śacī’s Delay, Deva-Counsel, and Indra’s Purification
संविभज्य च भूतेषु विसृज्य च सुरेश्वर: । विज्वरो धूतपाप्मा च वासवो5भवदात्मवान्,इस प्रकार समस्त भूतोंमें ब्रह्महत्याका विभाजन करके देवेश्वर इन्द्रने उसे त्याग दिया और स्वयं मनको वशमें करके वे निष्पाप तथा निश्चिन्त हो गये
saṁvibhajya ca bhūteṣu visṛjya ca sureśvaraḥ | vijvaro dhūtapāpmā ca vāsavo ’bhavad ātmavān ||
Matapos ipamahagi ang bigat ng brahmahatyā sa mga nilalang at saka ito itakwil, si Indra—panginoon ng mga diyos—ay napalaya sa lagnat na pagdurusa; nayugyog palayo ang kanyang kasalanan, at sa pagdaig niya sa sariling isip, si Vāsava ay naging dalisay at payapa, walang pangamba.
नहुष उवाच
Moral taint (pāpa) is not removed by denial but by deliberate resolution: it is apportioned and relinquished, and inner purity is stabilized through self-mastery (ātmavat). The verse links ethical cleansing with restraint and restored order.
Nahusha describes how Indra, burdened by brahmahatyā, distributes that burden among beings and then casts it off; as a result Indra becomes free from distress, purified of sin, and self-possessed.
