Vṛtra’s Cosmic Threat, Viṣṇu’s Upāya, and the Conditional Vulnerability
Udyoga-parva 10
पीड्यन्ते च प्रजा: सर्वा: सदेवासुरमानुषा: । सख्यं भवतु ते वृत्र शक्रेण सह नित्यदा,“देवता, असुर तथा मनुष्योंसहित सारी प्रजा इस युद्धसे पीड़ित हो रही है। अतः वृत्रासुर! हम चाहते हैं कि इन्द्रके साथ तुम्हारी सदाके लिये मैत्री हो जाय
pīḍyante ca prajāḥ sarvāḥ sadevāsuramānuṣāḥ | sakhyaṃ bhavatu te vṛtra śakreṇa saha nityadā ||
Lahat ng nilalang ay pinahihirapan—mga deva, asura, at mga tao—dahil sa tunggaliang ito. Kaya, O Vṛtra, nawa’y magkaroon ng pangmatagalang pagkakaibigan sa pagitan mo at ni Śakra (Indra).
शल्य उवाच
When conflict causes universal suffering, ethical counsel prioritizes reconciliation over victory; lasting friendship and cessation of enmity are presented as dharmic remedies to collective harm.
Śalya addresses Vṛtra, observing that the ongoing hostility afflicts all classes of beings—divine, demonic, and human—and urges Vṛtra to make perpetual peace with Śakra (Indra).
