Treasury Security, Protection of Informants, and the Kalakavṛkṣīya Exemplum (Śānti Parva 83)

सर्वकामान्‌ परित्यज्य तपस्तप्तं तदा मया । स्नेहात्‌ त्वां तु ब्रवीम्येतन्मा भूयो विभ्रमेदिति,मैं आपके पिताका आदरणीय एव सत्यप्रतिज्ञ मित्र हूँ। नरेश्वरर आपके पिताके स्वर्गवास हो जानेके पश्चात्‌ जब आपके राज्यपर भारी संकट आ गया था, तब अपनी समस्त कामनाओंका परित्याग करके मैंने (आपके हितके लिये) तपस्या की थी। आपके प्रति स्नेह होनेके कारण मैं फिर यहाँ आया हूँ और आपको ये सब बातें इसलिये बता रहा हूँ कि आप फिर किसीके चक्करमें न पड़ जायेँ

sarvakāmān parityajya tapas taptaṁ tadā mayā | snehāt tvāṁ tu bravīmy etan mā bhūyo vibhramed iti ||

Sinabi ni Bhīṣma: “Matapos talikuran ang lahat ng pagnanasa, noon ay nagsagawa ako ng mahigpit na pag-aayuno at pagninilay (tapas). Dahil sa aking pagmamahal sa iyo, sinasabi ko ito—upang hindi ka na muling mahulog sa pagkalito at mailigaw.”
