Śara-śayyā-sthita-bhīṣma-saṃvāda-prastāvaḥ

The Prelude to Questioning Bhīṣma on the Bed of Arrows

यश्नैतेन प्रमाणेन योक्ष्यत्यात्मानमात्मना । स फल सर्वपुण्यानां प्रेत्य चानुभविष्यति

yad etena pramāṇena yokṣyaty ātmānam ātmanā | sa phalaṃ sarvapuṇyānāṃ pretya cānubhaviṣyati ||

Wika ni Vāyu: Sinumang tumanggap sa aral na ito bilang ganap na pamantayan, at sa sariling pagsisikap na panloob ay disiplinahin at igapos ang sarili—siya, pagkalipas ng kamatayan, ay makatatamasa ng bunga ng lahat ng kabutihan, na wari’y natipon niya ang bawat anyo ng katuwiran.

To accept the given instruction as a trustworthy standard (pramāṇa) and, through one’s own effort, bring the self under disciplined control; such inner mastery is said to yield the comprehensive reward of merit.

Vāyudeva is speaking and concludes with a promise of फल (phala): anyone who embodies the teaching in lived practice—‘yoking the self by the self’—will, after death, experience the fruits of all kinds of पुण्य (puṇya).
