Śānti Parva, Adhyāya 52 — Bhīṣma’s Humility Before Kṛṣṇa and the Granting of Boons
यच्च मामात्थ गाड़ेय बाणघातरुजं प्रति । गृहाणात्र वरं भीष्म मत्प्रसादकृतं प्रभो
yacca mām āttha gāḍeya bāṇaghātarujaṃ prati | gṛhāṇātra varaṃ bhīṣma matprasādakṛtaṃ prabho ||
Wika ni Vāyu: “O inapo ni Gāḍi, tungkol sa kirot na dulot ng mga tama ng palaso na iyong binanggit—O Bhīṣma, panginoon—tanggapin mo rito ang ‘biyaya’ na ito, na ipinagkaloob sa pamamagitan ng aking pagpapala.”
वायुदेव उवाच
Even when one’s body is afflicted by severe pain, steadfastness in dharma is supported by divine grace; the verse frames suffering not as mere misfortune but as a condition in which spiritual resolve can be sustained and aided through a boon.
Vāyudeva addresses Bhīṣma, referring to Bhīṣma’s statement about the agony caused by arrow-wounds, and offers him a boon—explicitly described as arising from Vāyu’s favor—meant to respond to that suffering.
