Adhyāya 5 (Śānti-parva): Nārada’s account of Karṇa—Jarāsandha encounter and the causal grounds of Karṇa’s fall
स विकारं शरीरस्य दृष्टवा नृपतिरात्मन: । प्रीतो5स्मीत्यब्रवीत् कर्ण वैरमुत्सृज्य दूरत:
sa vikāraṃ śarīrasya dṛṣṭvā nṛpatir ātmanaḥ | prīto ’smīty abravīt karṇa vairam utsṛjya dūrataḥ ||
Wika ni Narada: “Nang makita ng hari ang pagbabagong dumapo sa sarili niyang katawan, itinaboy niya ang poot at sinabi kay Karna: ‘Ako’y nalulugod sa iyo.’”
नारद उवाच
A ruler’s dharma includes the capacity to relinquish hostility when insight arises—here, self-observation leads to abandoning enmity and openly acknowledging merit, modeling ethical restraint and reconciliation.
Nārada narrates that the king (identified in the surrounding context as Jarāsandha) notices a change in his own body, abandons his hostile attitude, and tells Karṇa that he is pleased with him.
