Bhīṣma’s Śara-śayyā Stuti to Vāsudeva and Yogic Preparation for Dehotsarga

एको<पि कृष्णस्य कृत: प्रणामो दशाश्वमेधाव भूथेन तुल्य: । दशाश्वमेधी पुनरेति जन्म कृष्णप्रणामी न पुनर्भवाय,भगवान् श्रीकृष्णको एक बार भी प्रणाम किया जाय तो वह दस अभश्वमेध यज्ञोंके अन्तमें किये गये स्नानके समान फल देनेवाला होता है। इसके सिवा प्रणाममें एक विशेषता है--दस अश्वमेध करनेवालेका तो पुनः इस संसारमें जन्म होता है, किंतु श्रीकृष्णको प्रणाम करनेवाला मनुष्य फिर भव-बन्धनमें नहीं पड़ता
eko 'pi kṛṣṇasya kṛtaḥ praṇāmo daśāśvamedhāvabhṛthena tulyaḥ | daśāśvamedhī punar eti janma kṛṣṇapraṇāmī na punarbhavāya ||
Sinabi ni Bhīṣma: Kahit isang ulit na mapitagang pagpupugay kay Kṛṣṇa ay nagbubunga ng kabutihang-kaloob na katumbas ng pangwakas na paglilinis (avabhṛtha) ng sampung handog na Aśvamedha. Ngunit may higit pang pagkakaiba: ang nagsagawa ng sampung Aśvamedha ay muling isisilang pa rin sa daigdig, samantalang ang yumuyuko kay Kṛṣṇa ay hindi na bumabalik sa gapos ng paulit-ulit na pag-iral.
भीष्म उवाच
Devotional surrender expressed even through a single sincere praṇāma to Kṛṣṇa is presented as surpassing great ritual achievements: it grants not merely ritual merit but freedom from punarbhava (rebirth), emphasizing liberation-oriented devotion over merit-seeking sacrifice.
In the Śānti Parva discourse, Bhīṣma instructs Yudhiṣṭhira on dharma and the highest means to welfare. Here he praises the spiritual efficacy of bowing to Kṛṣṇa, comparing it to the culmination of major Vedic sacrifices and then asserting its superior result—release from saṃsāra.
