भरतनन्दन नरेश्वर! तुमने जिसके विषयमें मुझसे पूछा था

bharatanandana nareśvara! tvayā yasya viṣaye mama pṛṣṭaṃ tad eva śreṣṭho dharmaḥ. sa dhīro brāhmaṇo niṣkāma-bhāvena dharma-artha-sambandhiṣu kāryeṣu saṃlagna āsīt. satyaṃ kila kṛta-niścayo dvijo bhujaga-pati-pratideśitātma-kṛtyaḥ; yama-niyama-sahaḥ vanāntaraṃ parigaṇitocchiṣṭa-śilāśanaḥ praviṣṭaḥ.

Wika ni Bhīṣma: “O inapo ni Bharata, O hari! Ang itinatanong mo sa akin—ito nga ang pinakadakilang dharma. Ang matatag na Brahmin na iyon, na walang pagnanasa para sa sariling pakinabang, ay nanatiling abala sa mga gawaing kaugnay ng dharma at artha. Tunay nga, matapos magpasiya nang matibay at maunawaan ang sariling tungkulin ayon sa turo ng panginoon ng mga ahas, ang ‘dalawang-ulit-na-isinilang’ ay pumasok sa ibang gubat. Doon, namuhay siya sa takdang sukat na pagkain na nakukuha sa paraan ng kabuhayang occhiṣṭa-śilā, at isinagawa ang yama at niyama.”
