Yajña-bhāga-vyavasthā and the Pravṛtti–Nivṛtti Framework (यज्ञभागव्यवस्था तथा प्रवृत्तिनिवृत्तिधर्मविवेचनम्)
ततः कदाचिच्छिष्यास्तं परिवार्यावतस्थिरे । वेदाध्ययनसम्पन्ना: शान्तात्मानो जितेन्द्रिया:
tataḥ kadācic chiṣyās taṃ parivāryāvatasthire | vedādhyayana-sampannāḥ śāntātmāno jitendriyāḥ ||
Pagkaraan, minsan, ang kanyang mga alagad—na ganap sa pag-aaral ng Veda, payapa ang diwa, at napagtagumpayan ang mga pandama—ay nagtipon sa paligid niya at nanatiling nakaupo sa paglilingkod.
भीष्म उवाच
The verse highlights the ethical prerequisites for receiving higher instruction: Vedic learning joined with inner peace (śāntātmā) and mastery over the senses (jitendriya). It presents knowledge as inseparable from discipline and humility in the guru–śiṣya setting.
A group of well-trained, self-controlled disciples gather around their teacher and remain in respectful attendance, preparing to ask questions or receive instruction. The moment sets the stage for a didactic exchange in the Śānti Parva.
