The verse presents a step-by-step cosmology: after earlier principles have manifested, the sensory faculties (beginning with hearing) arise as a distinct, traditionally recognized stage—called the seventh creation, the ‘sensory creation’ (aindriyaka).
In Śānti Parva’s didactic dialogue, Yājñavalkya instructs the king on the ordered emergence of the constituents of embodied life, identifying the appearance of the sense-faculties as a specific stage within the broader account of creation.
