Śānti-parva Adhyāya 30: Nārada–Parvata Samaya-bhaṅga, Śāpa, and the Marriage of Sukumārī
मातुलो भागिनेयश्व देवलोकादिहागतौ । विहर्तुकामौ सम्प्रीत्या मानुषेषु पुरा विभो,ये दोनों परस्पर मामा और भानजे लगते हैं! प्रभो! पहलेकी बात है ये दोनों महर्षि मनुष्यलोकमें भ्रमण करनेके लिये प्रेमपूर्वक देवलोकसे यहाँ आये थे
mātulo bhāgineyaś ca devalokād ihāgatau | vihartukāmau samprītyā mānuṣeṣu purā vibho ||
Wika ni Śrī Kṛṣṇa: “Tila magkaugnay sila bilang tiyuhin sa panig ng ina at pamangkin—anak ng kapatid na babae. O makapangyarihan! Noong unang panahon, ang dalawang dakilang ṛṣi na iyon, dahil sa pag-iibigan at paggalang sa isa’t isa at sa pagnanais na maglakbay sa daigdig ng tao, ay bumaba rito mula sa daigdig ng mga diyos.”
श्रीकृष्ण उवाच
The verse highlights how even exalted beings (great sages from Devaloka) enter the human realm out of affection and a wish to observe or engage with human life, underscoring the Mahābhārata’s theme that dharma is to be understood through lived human contexts and relationships.
Kṛṣṇa identifies two figures as related like an uncle and nephew, then explains their background: long ago they came down from Devaloka to the human world, affectionately and with the intention of wandering among people.
