Welfare, Steadfastness, and Norms of Giving
Worldly ties are unreliable for a person who lacks virtue; lasting support comes from the company of the virtuous—especially those devoted to the Lord, kind in speech, benevolent, and self-controlled—who do not forsake one in adversity.
Parāśara addresses a king and offers moral instruction: he contrasts the instability of ordinary social relations around a thoroughly unvirtuous person with the steadfast loyalty of spiritually and ethically disciplined companions.
