Śoka-śamana: Kṛṣṇa’s Consolation and Nārada’s Exempla to Sṛñjaya
Chapter 29
शुशुभे वदनं तस्य सुदष्ट्र चारुलोचनम् । व्याकोशमिव विस्पष्टं पद्म सूर्य इबोदिते,उस समय सुन्दर दाँतों और मनोहर नेत्रोंसे युक्त उनका मुखारविन्द सूर्योदयके समय पूर्णतः विकसित हुए कमलके समान शोभा पा रहा था
śuśubhe vadanaṃ tasya sudaṃṣṭraṃ cārulocanam | vyākośam iva vispaṣṭaṃ padmaṃ sūrya ivodite ||
Sabi ni Vaiśampāyana: Noon, ang kanyang mukha—may magagandang ngipin at kaakit-akit na mga mata—ay nagniningning nang marilag, gaya ng lotus na ganap na bumubuka at malinaw na nahahayag sa pagsikat ng araw.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Though primarily descriptive, the verse supports the Śānti Parva’s ethical atmosphere by portraying a figure whose outward serenity and auspicious radiance suggest inner steadiness—an ideal quality for one engaged in dharma, counsel, and righteous governance.
Vaiśampāyana describes the appearance of a man’s face: it is handsome (fine teeth, beautiful eyes) and shines like a lotus that has fully opened at sunrise, emphasizing a moment of clarity and auspicious presence.
