Adhyāya 283: Varṇa-vṛtti, Nyāya-ārjana, and the Decline-and-Restoration of Dharma (वर्णवृत्तिः न्यायार्जनं च)
विश्वावसुर्विश्वसेनो गन्धर्वाप्सरसस्तथा । देवता, दानव, गन्धर्व, पिशाच, नाग, राक्षस, हाहा और हूहू नामक गन्धर्व, तुम्बुरु, नारद, विश्वावसु, विश्वसेन तथा दूसरे-दूसरे गन्धर्व और अप्सराएँ वहाँ उपस्थित थीं ।। ६३ || आदित्या वसवो रुद्रा: साध्या: सह मरुद्गणै:
viśvāvāsur viśvaseno gandharvāpsarasas tathā | devatā dānavā gandharvā piśācā nāgā rākṣasā hāhā hūhū nāmakau gandharvau tumburur nāradaḥ viśvāvāsuḥ viśvasenaś ca anye'pi gandharvā apsarasaś ca tatra samupasthitāḥ || 63 || ādityā vasavo rudrāḥ sādhyāḥ saha marudgaṇaiḥ |
Sinabi ni Vaiśampāyana: Naroon sina Viśvāvasu at Viśvasena, kasama ang napakaraming Gandharva at Apsara. Naroon din ang mga diyos at mga Dānava, mga Gandharva, mga Piśāca, mga Nāga, at mga Rākṣasa—kasama ang mga Gandharva na tinatawag na Hāhā at Hūhū, gayundin si Tumburu at si Nārada. Sa gayon, marami pang ibang Gandharva at Apsara ang nagkatipon sa pook na iyon. Gayundin, naroon ang mga Āditya, Vasu, Rudra, at Sādhya, na may kasamang mga pangkat ng Marut.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse underscores that discussions of dharma and right governance in the Śānti Parva are not merely human concerns but are witnessed and endorsed within a wider cosmic order, where many classes of beings—gods, sages, and celestial musicians—are present as observers.
Vaiśampāyana lists the many celestial and supernatural beings assembled at the scene, naming prominent Gandharvas and deities (Ādityas, Vasus, Rudras, Sādhyas, and Maruts), indicating a grand gathering where important instruction or discourse is taking place.
