तृष्णाक्षय-उपदेशः

Instruction on the Cessation of Craving

चतुर्द्धारें पुरुषं चतुर्मुखं चतुर्धा चैनमुपयाति वाचा । बाहुभ्यां वाच उदरादुपस्थात्‌ तेषां द्वारं द्वारपालो बुभूषेत्‌

caturdvāre puruṣaṃ caturmukhaṃ caturdhā cainam upayāti vācā | bāhubhyāṃ vāca udarād upasthāt teṣāṃ dvāraṃ dvārapālo bubhūṣet ||

Wika ni Kapila: “Ang tao ay isang nilalang na may apat na pintuan at apat na mukha. Nilalapitan siya sa apat na paraan sa pamamagitan ng disiplinadong pananalita: sa pamamagitan ng mga bisig (mga gawa), sa pamamagitan ng pananalita mismo, sa pamamagitan ng tiyan (pagnanasa sa pagkain), at sa pamamagitan ng sangkap ng pag-aanak (pwersa ng pita). Nawa’y hangarin ng tao na maging bantay-pinto ng mga pintuang ito—ibig sabihin, pigilan at pamahalaan ang mga ito. Ayon sa turo ng mga śāstra, sa pagwawagi sa apat na pintuang ito ay nararating ang Kataas-taasang Persona—na may apat na ‘mukha’ na tulad ng apat na Veda—sa pamamagitan ng apat na landas: debosyon, kaalaman, pagkilos, at ang yoga ng walong sangkap.”
