Royal Duty: Protection, Penal Policy, and the Hayagrīva Exemplum
आयासो वापि यन्मूलस्तदेकाड्मपि त्यजेत् । “जिसके कारण शोक और बढ़ा हुआ ताप होता हो अथवा जो आयासका भी मूल कारण हो, वह अपने शरीरका एक अंग भी हो तो भी उसको त्याग देना चाहिये ।।
āyāso vāpi yanmūlas tad ekāṅgam api tyajet | sukhaṃ vā yadi vā duḥkhaṃ priyaṃ vā yadi vāpriyam | prāptaṃ prāptam upāsīta hṛdayenāparājitaḥ ||
Wika ni Vyāsa: Anumang nagiging pinagmumulan ng dalamhati at naglalagablab na pagdurusa—o maging ugat ng nakapapagod na paghihirap—ay dapat talikdan, kahit ito’y kasinglapit at kasinghalaga ng sariling bahagi ng katawan. Ligaya man o sakit, kanais-nais man o di-kanais-nais ang dumarating, tanggapin ang bawat pangyayari sa pagdating nito, nang hindi pinapadaig ang puso—nang hindi isinusuko ang lakas-loob sa kalooban.
व्यास उवाच
Remove from life whatever is the root of sorrow and exhausting distress—even if it feels as close as one’s own limb—and cultivate an undefeated inner stance that accepts whatever comes (pleasant or unpleasant) without losing courage.
