Āśrama-dharma and Brahmacarya: Śuka’s Inquiry on Karma and Tyāga (शुक-प्रश्नः कर्मत्यागविवेकश्च)

प्रतर्दन: काशिपति: प्रदाय नयने स्वके । ब्राह्मणायातुलां कीर्तिमिह चामुत्र चाश्लुते

pratardanaḥ kāśipatiḥ pradāya nayane svake | brāhmaṇāyātulāṃ kīrtim iha cāmutra cāśnute ||

Wika ni Vyāsa: Si Pratardana, hari ng Kāśī, matapos ibigay sa isang Brāhmaṇa ang sarili niyang dalawang mata, ay nagkamit ng di-mapapantayang katanyagan sa mundong ito; at sa kabilang daigdig man ay tinatamasa niya ang dakilang kaligayahan. Itinataguyod ng taludtod ang aral ng pagkakawanggawang may pagsasakripisyo ng sarili, na itinuturing ang pagbibigay ng bahagi ng katawan bilang sukdulang dāna na nagbubunga ng dangal at gantimpalang espirituwal.
