Conduct grounded in the practice of the virtuous is ‘blameless’; attaining the right kind of buddhi (discernment aligned with dharma) is what carries one to the supreme end (parā gati), i.e., the highest spiritual goal.
In the Śānti Parva’s instruction on dharma, Bhīṣma continues advising the listener that the recommended way of life is validated by the precedent of good people and that its inner fruit is the awakening of liberating understanding.
