Manifest–Unmanifest Discrimination and the Supreme Path of Withdrawal
तदिदं ब्रह्म वाष्णेयमितिहासं शृणुष्व मे । ब्राह्मणो ब्राह्मुणै: श्राव्यो राजन्य: क्षत्रियैस्तथा
tad idaṁ brahma vārṣṇeyam itihāsaṁ śṛṇuṣva me | brāhmaṇo brāhmaṇaiḥ śrāvyo rājanyaḥ kṣatriyais tathā ||
Wika ni Bhishma: “Ngayon, pakinggan mo mula sa akin ang banal na salaysay na ito na may kaugnayan sa angkan ng Vārṣṇeya. Ang isang brāhmaṇa ay nararapat magbigkas nito sa mga brāhmaṇa, at ang isang kṣatriya (rājanya) ay gayundin sa mga kṣatriya.”
भीष्म उवाच
Sacred knowledge (brahma/itihāsa) should be transmitted responsibly within appropriate circles, emphasizing disciplined preservation and proper recitation according to social-ritual norms.
Bhīṣma introduces a holy account associated with the Vārṣṇeya (Vṛṣṇi) tradition and states who should recite it to whom, setting the frame for the teaching that follows.
