Doṣa-Parīkṣā and Guṇa-Viveka
Examination of Faults and Discernment of the Guṇas
सर्वाण्येतानि संवार्य द्वाराणि मनसि स्थित: । मनस्येकाग्रतां कृत्वा तत्परं प्रतिपद्यते
sarvāṇy etāni saṃvārya dvārāṇi manasi sthitaḥ | manasy ekāgratāṃ kṛtvā tat-paraṃ pratipadyate ||
Wika ni Bhishma: Kapag napigil ang lahat ng “pintuan” na ito (mga pandama) at nananatili sa loob ng isip, dapat tipunin ang isip sa iisang tuldok ng pagtuon. Kapag ang mga kakayahan ay natipon sa puso at ang naghahanap ay lubos na nakatuon sa “Yaon,” natatamo niya ang Kataas-taasang Sarili na nasa kabila ng lahat.
भीष्म उवाच
Restrain the senses (the mind’s outward ‘gates’), establish the mind in one-pointed concentration, and direct oneself wholly toward the Supreme; such inwardly gathered discipline leads to realization of the Self beyond the senses.
In the Shanti Parva’s instruction on dharma and liberation, Bhishma continues his counsel by describing an inner yogic method: withdrawing the senses, collecting the mind, and attaining the Supreme through focused contemplation.
