Adhyāya 199: Karma–Jñāna Causality and the Nirguṇa Brahman
Manu’s Instruction
सदा दान्तो जितक्रोध: सत्यसंधो5नसूयक:,वह सदा मन और इन्द्रियोंको संयममें रखता था, क्रोधको जीत चुका था। अपनी की हुई प्रतिज्ञा सचाईके साथ पालन करता था और किसीके दोष नहीं देखता था। बुद्धिमान् ब्राह्मणगका वह नियम पूर्ण होनेपर साक्षात् भगवान् धर्म उस समय उसपर बहुत प्रसन्न हुए और उन्होंने उसे प्रत्यक्ष दर्शन दिया
sadā dānto jitakrodhaḥ satyasaṃdho 'nasūyakaḥ | sa sadā mana indriyāṇi ca saṃyamya krodhaṃ jitavān | kṛtāṃ pratijñāṃ satyatayā pālayati sma na ca kasyacid doṣān apaśyat | tasya buddhimataḥ brāhmaṇasya niyame pūrṇe tadā sākṣād bhagavān dharmas tasminn atīva prasannaḥ san pratyakṣaṃ darśanaṃ dadau |
Wika ni Bhīṣma: “Siya’y laging mapagpigil sa sarili, nagapi ang galit, matatag sa katotohanan, at hindi mapanisi. Palagi niyang pinananatiling nasa pagpipigil ang isip at mga pandama; napasuko na niya ang poot. Tapat niyang tinupad ang kanyang mga panata nang walang pag-uurong at hindi tumitingin sa kapintasan ng iba. Nang ganap na ang pagtalima ng marunong na brāhmaṇa, ang Panginoong Dharma mismo ay labis na nalugod at ipinagkaloob sa kanya ang tuwirang pagdanas ng Kanyang anyo.”
भीष्म उवाच
Ethical excellence is shown through steady self-restraint: mastering anger, keeping mind and senses disciplined, honoring vows truthfully, and refusing to hunt for others’ faults. Such integrity in niyama (disciplined conduct) draws the favor of Dharma itself.
Bhīṣma describes a virtuous brāhmaṇa whose completed observance—marked by restraint, truthfulness, and non-censure—culminates in a direct, personal manifestation (darśana) of Lord Dharma, who is pleased by the practitioner’s conduct.
