जापक–इक्ष्वाकु–सत्यविवादः

The Jāpaka, Ikṣvāku, and the Dispute on Truth and Merit

वानप्रस्थानां च द्रव्योपस्कार इति प्रायशः खल्वेते साधव: साधुपथ्यौदना: स्वाध्यायप्रसड्धिन-स्तीर्थाभिगमनदेशदर्शनार्थ. पृथिवीं पर्यटन्ति । तेषां प्रत्युत्थानाभिगमनाभिवादनानसूयवाक्‌प्रदानसुखश- क्त्यासनसुखशयनाभ्यवहारसत्क्रिया चेति

Bharadvāja uvāca: vānaprasthānāṃ ca dravyopaskāra iti prāyaśaḥ khalv ete sādhavaḥ sādhupathyau-danāḥ svādhyāya-prasaktinas tīrthābhigamana-deśa-darśanārthaṃ pṛthivīṃ paryaṭanti. teṣāṃ pratyutthānābhigamanābhivādanān asūyā-vāk-pradāna-sukha-śakty-āsana-sukha-śayana-abhyavahāra-satkriyā ceti.

Sinabi ni Bharadvāja: “Tungkol sa mga pumasok na sa yugto ng pamumuhay bilang naninirahan sa gubat (vānaprastha), ang pag-iimpok ng yaman at mga ari-arian ay, sa karamihan, hindi nila kaugalian. Ang mga banal na taong ito, na nagnanais lamang ng malinis at nakabubuting pagkain, ay naglalakbay sa buong daigdig alang-alang sa pag-aaral ng Veda (svādhyāya), pagdalaw sa mga banal na pook, at pagtanaw sa iba’t ibang lupain. Kapag dumating sa tahanan ang gayong mga naninirahan sa gubat, nararapat na tumindig upang salubungin sila, lumapit upang tanggapin, at maghandog ng magalang na pagpupugay. Dapat silang kausapin nang walang paghahanap ng kapintasan, bigkasin ang mabubuting salita, at—ayon sa makakaya—magbigay ng komportableng upuan, komportableng higaan, at angkop na pagkain, at sa gayon ay ganap na magpatuloy ng pagkamapagpatuloy. Ito ang tungkulin ng maybahay (gṛhastha) sa gayong mararangal na tao.”
