Janaka’s Renunciation Questioned; Discourse on Dāna and Detachment
The verse emphasizes rajadharma: a king should accept governance and the legitimate instruments and comforts of rule as part of duty, not abandon them out of reluctance; rightful authority is to be exercised for order and welfare.
Arjuna addresses a king and urges him to take up sovereignty over the earth and to resume the full life of kingship—palace, bed, conveyance, clothing, and ornaments—signaling a return to proper royal conduct and responsibility.
