Adhyāya 166: Kṛtaghna-doṣa (कृतघ्नदोषः) — the fault of ingratitude and the limits of expiation

मांसं मूत्रं पुरीषं च प्राश्य संस्कारमर्हति । अनास्तिक पुरुषोंके लिये एक गोदानमात्र ही प्रायश्चित्त बतलाया गया है। कुत्ते, सूअर, मनुष्य, मुर्गे और गदहेके मांस और मल-मूत्र खा लेनेपर द्विजका पुनः संस्कार होना चाहिये

bhīṣma uvāca | māṁsaṁ mūtraṁ purīṣaṁ ca prāśya saṁskāram arhati |

Sinabi ni Bhishma: “Kung ang isang ‘dalawang-ulit na isinilang’ (dvija) ay kumain ng laman, ihi, o dumi, siya’y mananagot sa muling pagtatalaga sa pamamagitan ng itinakdang mga ritwal ng paglilinis. Sa ganitong diwa, binibigyang-diin ng aral na ang sinadyang paglabag sa kadalisayan at pananampalataya—lalo na yaong kaugnay ng marurumi o ipinagbabawal na bagay—ay hindi dapat ituring na munting pagkukulang; kailangan nito ang pormal na pagtubos at ang pagpapanumbalik ng katayuang dharmiko sa pamamagitan ng disiplina ng ritwal. Idinaragdag pa ng paliwanag na para sa isang nāstika (di-naniniwala), isang kaloob na baka lamang ang sinasabing pagtubos; at na ang pagkain ng laman o karumihan (dumi/ihi) ng mga hayop gaya ng aso, baboy, tao, tandang, at asno ay nag-uutos na ang dvija ay muling sumailalim sa saṁskāra.”
