Dama-pradhāna-dharma (Self-restraint as the Root of Dharma) — Śānti-parva 154

सुखस्यानन्तरं दुःखं दुःखस्यानन्तरं सुखम्‌

sukhasyānantaraṃ duḥkhaṃ duḥkhasyānantaraṃ sukham

Sinabi ni Jambuka: “Pagkaraan ng ligaya ay dumarating ang dalamhati, at pagkaraan ng dalamhati ay dumarating ang ligaya. Kaya unawain ang salit-salit na anyo ng karanasan sa daigdig at manatiling matatag—huwag malasing sa sarap, huwag madurog sa sakit.”
