Śaraṇāgata-Atithi-Dharma in the Kapota Narrative (कपोत-आख्यानम्—शरणागतधर्मः)
विश्वामित्रो5पि भगवांस्तपसा दग्धकिल्बिष: । कालेन महता सिद्धिमवाप परमाद्भुताम्,भगवान् विश्वामित्र भी दीर्घकालतक निराहार व्रत एवं तपस्या करके अपने सारे पाप दग्ध कर चुके थे; अतः उन्हें अत्यन्त अद्भुत सिद्धि प्राप्त हुई
Viśvāmitro 'pi bhagavāṁs tapasā dagdha-kilbiṣaḥ | kālena mahatā siddhim avāpa paramādbhutām ||
Wika ni Bhīṣma: “Maging ang kagalang-galang na si Viśvāmitra, matapos sunugin ang kanyang mga kasalanan sa pamamagitan ng mahigpit na pag-aayuno at pagninilay-tapa, ay nakamtan—pagkaraan ng napakahabang panahon—ang isang pambihira at kamangha-manghang tagumpay na espirituwal.”
भीष्म उवाच
Persistent tapas (austerity and disciplined practice) can burn away kilbiṣa (moral taint) and, over long time, lead to siddhi—an elevated spiritual attainment. The emphasis is on endurance, purification, and ethical transformation rather than quick results.
Bhīṣma cites Viśvāmitra as an illustrative example: despite earlier faults, he purified himself through prolonged austerities and eventually attained a remarkable accomplishment. The reference functions as moral evidence within Bhīṣma’s instruction on dharma and self-cultivation.
