Apaddharma Determination: Dialogue of Viśvāmitra and the Śvapaca
त्वं हि सौम्य कृतार्थोड्द्य निर्वत्तार्थास्तथा वयम्
tvaṃ hi saumya kṛtārtho ’dya nirvṛttārthās tathā vayam
Wika ni Bhīṣma: “O mahinahong nilalang, ngayong araw ay tunay mong natamo ang iyong layon; at gayon din, kami man ay natupad ang aming mga hangarin. Kaya ang bagay na ito’y ganap na, at wala nang tungkuling naiwan.”
भीष्म उवाच
The verse highlights the ethical ideal of kṛtārthatā—bringing one’s duty and intended task to completion. It affirms that fulfillment is measured by finishing what is rightfully undertaken, leaving no pending obligation.
Bhīṣma addresses a listener respectfully as “saumya,” stating that the listener’s objective has been achieved and that Bhīṣma (and his side/companions) likewise consider their own purpose completed—signaling closure in the counsel or undertaking being discussed.
