आपद्धर्मे कोशबलन्यायः | Treasury, Force, and Crisis-Ethics for the King
स्मरन् पुत्रमरण्ये वै नष्टं परमदुर्मना: । भूरिद्युम्नपिता श्रीमान् वीरद्युम्नो महायशा:
smaran putram araṇye vai naṣṭaṃ paramadurmanāḥ | bhūridyumnapitā śrīmān vīradyumno mahāyaśāḥ ||
Wika ni Bhīṣma: Sa pag-alaala sa anak na nawala sa gubat, siya’y lubos na nanlumo at nagdalamhati. Ang marangal at bantog na taong iyon ay si Vīradyumna, ang mapalad na ama ni Bhūridyumna—nagdurusa nang matindi dahil sa pagkawalay sa anak.
भीष्म उवाच
The verse foregrounds the human reality of sorrow arising from attachment and separation, using a parental example to evoke compassion and to prepare for reflection on steadiness of mind and dharma amid suffering.
Bhīṣma introduces (or continues) an illustrative episode: Vīradyumna’s son Bhūridyumna has gone missing in the forest, and the father, remembering him, is overwhelmed with grief.
