त्रिवर्गमूलनिश्चयः — Determining the Roots of Dharma, Artha, and Kāma

Mahābhārata, Śānti-parva 123

जो सम्पूर्ण जगतको शिक्षा देनेवाले हैं, वे धर्म प्रजापतिसे दण्डको ग्रहण करके प्रजाकी रक्षाके लिये सदा जागरूक रहते हैं। ब्रह्मपुत्र सनातन व्यवसाय वह दण्ड धर्मसे लेकर लोकरक्षाके लिये जागते रहते हैं ।।

vyavasāyāt tatastejo jāgarti paripālayat | oṣadhyastejasastasmādoṣadhībhyaś ca parvatāḥ ||

Sinabi ni Vasuharoma: Ang Dharma, na nagtuturo sa buong daigdig, ay tumanggap ng daṇḍa mula kay Prajāpati at laging gising upang ipagtanggol ang mga tao. Ang walang hanggang Vyavasāya, na wari’y anak ni Brahmā, ay tumanggap ng daṇḍa mula sa Dharma at nagbabantay para sa pag-iingat ng sanlibutan. Mula sa Vyavasāya ay sumibol ang Tejas, na gising habang pinangangalagaan ang mundo. Mula sa Tejas nagmula ang mga halamang-gamot; mula sa mga halamang-gamot ay nagmula ang mga bundok. Kaya, sa maayos na sunod-sunod na pag-asa at pagsuporta, ang lakas ng disiplina ay patuloy na ipinapasa upang pangalagaan ang mga nilalang—laging mapagbantay sa paglilingkod sa Dharma at sa pangkalahatang pag-iingat.
