शकुनि (हिरण्मय-पक्षी) उपदेशः — Vighasāśin and the Difficulty of Gārhasthya

धर्मोडयमिति मन्वाना: समृद्धा ब्रह्मचारिण: । त्यक्त्वा भ्रातृन्‌ पितृश्चैव तानिन्द्रोडन्वकृपायत,यद्यपि वे सब-के-सब धनी थे, तथापि भाई-बन्धु और माता-पिताको छोड़कर इसीको धर्म मानते हुए वनमें आकर ब्रह्मचर्यका पालन करने लगे। एक दिन इन्द्रदेवने उनपर कृपा की

dharma udayam iti manvānāḥ samṛddhā brahmacāriṇaḥ | tyaktvā bhrātṝn pitṝṃś caiva tān indro ’nvakṛpāyata ||

Sa paniniwalang ang landas na iyon ang siyang pag-angat at diwa ng dharma, ang mga kabataang may kaya ay sumailalim sa disiplina ng brahmacarya. Tinalikuran nila ang mga kapatid, maging ang mga magulang, at nagtungo sa gubat, itinuturing itong katuwiran. Isang araw, naantig si Indra at naawa sa kanila.
