Educational Q&A

Bhishma introduces a traditional ‘itihāsa’ as a moral-ethical illustration: principles about duty, courage, and the consequences of conduct (especially in relation to warfare and kṣatriya-dharma) are clarified through an exemplary story rather than abstract argument.

Bhishma begins a new illustrative episode, stating that the wise recount an ancient story in which King Pratardana and Janaka of Mithila confronted each other in battle; the verse functions as the opening frame for the forthcoming account.
