Bhīma’s Rebuttal of Yudhiṣṭhira’s Renunciatory Inclination
अथ चेदात्मभाग्येषु नान्येषां सिद्धिमश्रुते । तस्मात् कर्मव कर्तव्यं नास्ति सिद्धिरकर्मण:
atha ced ātmabhāgyeṣu nānyeṣāṁ siddhim aśrute | tasmāt karmaiva kartavyaṁ nāsti siddhir akarmaṇaḥ ||
Wika ni Bhima: “Kung sa sariling itinakdang kapalaran ay hindi naririnig na ang tagumpay ay nagmumula sa gawa ng iba, kung gayon dapat ngang kumilos ang tao para sa sarili. Sapagkat sa taong hindi kumikilos, walang anumang mararating.”
भीम उवाच
Success is not to be expected through others’ actions; therefore one must perform one’s own duty and effort. Inaction yields no accomplishment.
In the Shanti Parva’s ethical discussions, Bhima speaks to emphasize the necessity of personal action and responsibility, arguing against reliance on others or on passive waiting for fate.
