शल्यस्य सेनापत्याभ्युपगमः | Śalya’s Acceptance of Command
“निश्चय ही युद्धमें प्राण देनेवालोंकी ओर अप्सराएँ बड़ी प्रसन्नतासे निहारा करती हैं। पितृगण उन्हें अवश्य ही देवताओं-की सभामें सम्मानित होते देखते हैं। वे स्वर्गमें अप्सराओंसे घिरकर आनन्दित होते देखे जाते हैं ।।
sañjaya uvāca |
niścaya hi yuddhe prāṇa-dāyināṁ prati apsarasaḥ prītāḥ samantān nirīkṣante |
pitaras tān niyataṁ devānāṁ sabhāyāṁ satkṛtān paśyanti |
te svarge apsarobhiḥ parivṛtā ānanditā dṛśyante ||
panthānam amarair yāntaṁ śūraiś caivānivartibhiḥ |
api tat-saṅgataṁ mārgaṁ vayam adhyāruhemahi |
vṛddha-pitāmahaṁ buddhimantam ācārya-droṇam jayadratham karṇam duḥśāsanaṁ ca saha ||
Sinabi ni Sañjaya: “Tunay nga, tinititigan ng mga Apsara nang may malaking galak ang mga nag-aalay ng buhay sa digmaan. Walang pagsalang nakikita sila ng mga Ninuno na pinararangalan sa kapulungan ng mga diyos. Sa langit, sila’y nakikitang nagagalak, napalilibutan ng mga Apsara. Sa mismong landas na dinaraanan ng mga walang-kamatayan—at ng matatapang na hindi kailanman tumatalikod—tayo rin kaya ngayon ay aakyat sa landas na iyon, kasama ang matandang grandsire, ang pantas na guro na si Droṇa, si Jayadratha, si Karṇa, at si Duḥśāsana?”
संजय उवाच
The passage frames death in righteous battle as leading to honor in the divine realm: steadfast, non-retreating warriors are envisioned as attaining a celebrated posthumous state, reinforcing the kshatriya ideal of courage and resolve.
Sanjaya describes the heavenly reward believed to await those who die in battle, then voices a rhetorical, forward-looking question about whether they too will soon follow that same path—naming major Kaurava figures such as Bhishma, Drona, Jayadratha, Karna, and Duhshasana.
