The verse underscores the terrifying escalation of violence in war: when great warriors clash, the consequences can appear extraordinary and dreadful, reminding the listener that martial power, once unleashed, produces effects beyond ordinary control and invites awe as well as fear.
Sañjaya describes a moment in the duel where Bhīma strikes Śalya’s mace with his own; the impact is portrayed as so fierce that Śalya’s mace seems to emit a ‘rain of embers,’ heightening the dramatic and almost supernatural atmosphere of the battlefield.
