Duryodhana’s Final Condition, Lamentation, and the Night’s Report

The verse highlights the moral and emotional aftermath of war: even steadfast allies are left with grief and helpless lamentation when violence culminates in ruin. It implicitly points to the consequence of adharma—victory sought through wrongdoing ends in sorrow rather than fulfillment.
After the catastrophic fighting, Duryodhana is seen lying on the ground, covered in blood. Ashvatthama, Kripa, and Kritavarma—three prominent survivors on the Kaurava side—approach him, surround him from all sides, and sit down in grief, lamenting his condition.
