Duryodhana’s Final Condition, Lamentation, and the Night’s Report
The verse highlights moral and emotional accountability: the true weight of wrongdoing in war is not only the fall of the wrongdoer, but the suffering imposed on innocents—here, the parents who must live with the loss of all their sons.
Sañjaya addresses Duryodhana and states that he does not mourn Duryodhana himself; instead, he mourns Gāndhārī and Dhṛtarāṣṭra, who are now bereaved of their sons in the wake of the Kurukṣetra war.
