रुदती पाण्डवं कृष्णा सा हि भारतमब्रवीत्,उस समय रोती हुई कृष्णाने भरतनन्दन पाण्डुपुत्र युधिष्ठिससे कहा--“राजन! सौभाग्यकी बात है कि आप क्षत्रिय-धर्मके अनुसार अपने पुत्रोंकोी यमराजकी भेंट चढ़ाकर यह सारी पृथ्वी पा गये और अब इसका उपभोग करेंगे
rudatī pāṇḍavaṃ kṛṣṇā sā hi bhāratam abravīt |
Sinabi ni Vaiśampāyana: Habang umiiyak, nagsalita si Kṛṣṇā (Draupadī) sa Pāṇḍava, O inapo ni Bharata. Sa dalamhati at mapait na pangungutya, sinabi niya kay Yudhiṣṭhira: “Mahal na Hari! Tunay ngang ‘mapalad’ kayo—ayon sa kṣatriya-dharma—sapagkat inihandog ninyo ang sarili ninyong mga anak kay Yama, at sa kapalit ay natamo ninyo ang buong daigdig na ito, at ngayo’y inyong tatamasahin ang kaharian.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights the ethical tension between formal ‘dharma’ as a warrior code and the human cost of war. Draupadī’s weeping speech frames victory as morally hollow when it is purchased through the death of one’s own children, forcing reflection on whether adherence to kṣatriya norms can justify such suffering.
After the night massacre associated with the Sauptika events, Draupadī is grieving. Vaiśampāyana narrates that she, in tears, speaks to Yudhiṣṭhira (addressed as Pāṇḍava/Bhārata), expressing anguished, ironic commentary that he has gained the kingdom only by ‘offering’ his sons to Death.
