पाण्डवानां वनप्रस्थानवर्णनम् / The Pāṇḍavas’ Departure for the Forest
Vidura’s Report and Portents
द्रौपहुुवाच लोभो धर्मस्य नाशाय भगवन् नाहमुत्सहे । अनर्ां वरमादातुं तृतीयं राजसत्तम
drauphy uvāca lobho dharmasya nāśāya bhagavan nāham utsahe | anarthāṁ varam ādātuṁ tṛtīyaṁ rājasattama ||
Sinabi ni Draupadī: “O iginagalang na ginoo, ang kasakiman ay humahantong sa pagkapuksa ng dharma. Hindi ako papayag tumanggap ng ikatlong biyaya na magdadala ng kapahamakan, O pinakamainam sa mga hari.”
धृतराष्ट उवाच
The verse warns that greed (lobha) destroys dharma, and it praises ethical restraint: even when one is offered more, one should refuse what would lead to harm (anartha) or further moral collapse.
After receiving boons, Draupadī addresses the king respectfully and declines a third boon, stating that accepting more would be driven by greed and would invite misfortune, thereby undermining dharma.
