Sabhā Parva, Adhyāya 68 — Pāṇḍavānāṃ Vanavāsa-prasthānaḥ; Duḥśāsana-nindā; Pāṇḍava-pratijñāḥ

तस्मात्‌ सत्यं ब्रुवन्‌ साक्षी धर्मार्थाभ्यां न हीयते । झूठ बोलनेवाला मनुष्य उन सभी दु:खोंका भागी होता है। समक्ष दर्शन, श्रवण और धारणसे साक्षी संज्ञा होती है, अतः सत्य बोलनेवाला साक्षी कभी धर्म और अर्थसे वंचित नहीं होता

tasmāt satyaṃ bruvan sākṣī dharmārthābhyāṃ na hīyate |

Kaya nga, ang saksi na nagsasabi ng katotohanan ay hindi nalalayo sa dharma at artha (katuwiran at nararapat na kasaganaan). Ang nagsisinungaling ay nagiging kabahagi sa lahat ng pagdurusang iyon; sapagkat tinatawag na “saksi” dahil sa tuwirang pagtanaw, pagdinig, at pag-iingat sa alaala—kaya ang saksi na nagsasabi ng totoo ay hindi kailanman pinagkakaitan ng katuwiran o ng makatarungang pag-unlad.
