अतीत्य गड्डां शोणं च त्रयस्ते प्राड्मुखास्तदा । कुशचीरच्छदा जम्मुर्मागधं क्षेत्रमच्युता:,इससे पहले मार्ममें उन्होंने रमणीय सरयू नदी पार करके पूर्वी कोसलप्रदेशमें भी पदार्पण किया था। कोसल पार करके बहुत-सी नदियोंका अवलोकन करते हुए वे मिथिलामें गये। गंगा और शोणभद्रको पार करके वे तीनों अच्युत वीर पूर्वाभिमुख होकर चलने लगे। उन्होंने कुश एवं चीरसे ही अपने शरीरको ढक रखा था। जाते-जाते वे मगधक्षेत्रकी सीमामें पहुँच गये
atītya gaṅgāṃ śoṇaṃ ca trayas te prāṅmukhās tadā | kuśacīracchadā jagmur māgadhaṃ kṣetram acyutāḥ ||
Wika ni Vaiśaṃpāyana: Matapos tawirin ang Gaṅgā at ang Śoṇa, ang tatlong bayani na matatag ang loob ay nagpatuloy na nakaharap sa silangan. Nakabalot lamang sa damong kuśa at telang balat-kahoy, naglakbay sila sa mahigpit na pagpipigil, hanggang sa marating ang hanggahan ng lupain ng Magadha.
वैशग्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights disciplined conduct during travel: the heroes move with restraint (minimal clothing of kuśa and bark-cloth) and steady purpose, suggesting that dharmic resolve is maintained even while passing through significant lands and rivers.
Three heroes cross the Gaṅgā and the Śoṇa, proceed eastward, and reach the frontier of Magadha, described as traveling in an austere manner with kuśa-grass and bark-cloth as their covering.
