Jarāsandha–Vāsudeva Saṃvāda: Kṣātra-Dharma, Pride, and the Ethics of Coercion

Sabhā Parva, Adhyāya 20

हतं मेने जरासंध॑ दृष्टवा भीमपुरोगमौ । एककार्यसमुद्यन्तौ कृष्णौ युद्धेडधपराजितौ,जरासंधके प्रति रोषके कारण वे प्रज्वलित-से हो रहे थे। जाति-भाइयोंके उद्धारके लिये उनका महान्‌ तेज प्रकट हुआ था। उस समय सूर्य, चन्द्रमा और अग्निके समान तेजस्वी शरीरवाले उन तीनोंका स्वरूप अत्यन्त उद्धासित हो रहा था। एक ही कार्यके लिये उद्यत हुए और युद्धमें कभी पराजित न होनेवाले उन दोनों (कृष्णोंको अर्थात्‌ नर-नारायणरूप कृष्ण और अर्जुन)-को भीमसेनको आगे लिये जाते देख युधिष्ठिरको निश्चय हो गया कि जरासंध अवश्य मारा जायगा

vaiśaṃpāyana uvāca | hataṃ mene jarāsaṃdhaṃ dṛṣṭvā bhīmapurogamau | ekakāryasamudyantau kṛṣṇau yuddhe 'dhaparājitau |

Sinabi ni Vaiśaṃpāyana: Nang makita ni Yudhiṣṭhira ang dalawang Kṛṣṇa—na kailanma’y hindi nagapi sa digmaan—na lumalakad na may iisang layunin at sumusulong na si Bhīma ang nasa unahan, napagtibay sa kanyang loob na si Jarāsandha ay para na ring napatay. Ang kanilang nagkakaisang pasya para sa matuwid na gawain ay nagningning sa nakapanghihilakbot na lakas, pinasiklab ng makatarungang poot laban kay Jarāsandha at itinuon sa paglaya ng kanilang mga kaanak.
