Shloka 57

तथैवोत्थापयामासुर्गान्धारी कुरुयोषित: । स दैवं परमं॑ मत्वा भवितव्यं च पार्थिव:,इसी प्रकार कुरुकुलकी स्त्रियोंने आकर गान्धारी देवीको उठाया। भाग्य और भवितव्यताको ही प्रबल मानकर राजा धुृतराष्ट्र भारी व्यथधाका अनुभव करने लगे। उनकी विवेकशक्ति नष्ट हो गयी। वे महातपस्वी नरेश चिन्ता और शोकमें डूब गये और मोहसे पीड़ित होनेके कारण उन्हें किसी भी बातकी सुध न रही। विदुर और संजयके समझानेपर राजा धृतराष्ट्र अचेत-से होकर चुपचाप बैठे रह गये

tathaivotthāpayāmāsur gāndhārīṁ kuru-yoṣitaḥ | sa daivaṁ paramaṁ matvā bhavitavyaṁ ca pārthivaḥ |

Sinabi ni Vaiśampāyana: Gayon din, dumating ang mga babae ng angkan ng Kuru at itinindig si Reyna Gāndhārī. Ngunit si Haring Dhṛtarāṣṭra, na itinuring na pinakamakapangyarihan ang tadhana (daiva) at ang di-maiiwasang mangyari (bhavitavya), ay nilamon ng matinding pighati; gumuho ang kanyang paghatol, at ang haring mapag-asceta ay lumubog sa pag-aalala at dalamhati, nababalot ng pagkalito at di malaman ang nararapat gawin. Kahit payuhan nina Vidura at Sañjaya, nanatili siyang tahimik, halos walang malay.
