निहन्मि दुःशासनमप्य पापं संरक्ष्यतामद्य समस्तयोधा: । उन्होंने वहाँ कर्ण

sañjaya uvāca | nihanmi duḥśāsanam adya pāpaṁ saṁrakṣyatām adya samasta-yodhāḥ |

Sinabi ni Sanjaya: “Ngayong araw, papatayin ko ang makasalanang si Duhshasana. Hayaan ninyong ang lahat ng mandirigma ay ipagtanggol siya ngayon—kung kaya nila.” Hinarap niya sina Karna, Duryodhana, Kripacharya, Ashvatthama, at Kritavarma at inihayag ang hamong ito, itinatanghal ang kamatayan ni Duhshasana bilang isang gawaing may bigat na moral sa malupit na lohika ng digmaan at paghihiganti.
