The verse highlights the moral and strategic cost of adharma-driven war: when forces collapse under the pressure of a powerful opponent, leaders become preoccupied with the fate of key allies, revealing dependence on counsel and the fragility of power built on aggression.
After Bhīmasena has broken the opposing troops in battle, Duryodhana turns to Sañjaya and urgently asks about Saubala—Śakuni—seeking news of his ally amid the chaos and retreat.
